Le Cube: A Revolutionary Modular Sofa Design

Rob van Puijenbroek's Award-Winning Innovation in Furniture Design

Le Cube, a unique modular sofa design by Rob van Puijenbroek, redefines flexibility and individuality in furniture. This innovative design, which bagged the Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2012, is constructed from small cubes that can be adjusted in height, thereby offering a customizable seating experience.

Van Puijenbroek's inspiration for Le Cube came from the number seven, a figure that symbolizes perfection and completeness in many cultures. This inspiration is reflected in the design's versatility and adaptability, allowing users to create a seating arrangement that perfectly suits their needs and preferences.

The unique properties of Le Cube lie in its modular design. The sofa is constructed from small cubes, which can be adjusted in height by simply adding or removing cubes. This feature allows for a wide range of customization options, from seat height and depth to the arrangement of individual seats. Furthermore, each cube can be ordered with its own upholstery and a hard top cover, which can double as a table surface, adding another layer of functionality to the design.

Le Cube is produced using a variety of materials, including MDF, plywood, gas spring, fabrics by Gabriels, leather by Hulshoff, and polyurethane foam. The production process takes place in Holland and Germany, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The sofa's dimensions are 1200x1200x470/660/780 cm, making it a substantial piece of furniture that can serve as a focal point in any living space. Despite its size, Le Cube maintains a playful and stylish aesthetic, thanks to its colorful upholstery options and innovative design.

Le Cube was first exhibited at the Salone del Mobile 2010 and developed into a final product in 2011. Since then, it has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Platinum A' Furniture Design Award in 2012. This award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing and advance the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.

With Le Cube, Rob van Puijenbroek has truly pushed the boundaries of furniture design, creating a piece that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and customizable. This design is a testament to van Puijenbroek's innovative spirit and commitment to creating furniture that enhances the user's lifestyle.
